No planning committee will turn down any half decent application to build on brownfield (with residents cheering them on for not using up green fields).  The issue is developers don&#039;t want them because they are expensive to clear and may have lower value when finished.  To force brownfield use requires either mandate or financial incentive.  Giving &#039;automatic permission&#039; is irrelevant if no-one requests it in the first place.  

As for the question on how our MP would vote I suggest the answer is in HMS Pinafore
