Why I’m A Resident Standing For Essex County Council – Anthony Gerard

Local issues matter. They matter to me, to my family, to my neighbours and to my community. It matters that we help each other to make where we live a better place.

For years I’ve anxious about getting a good school place for my daughter, about the damage to my car hitting pot-holes in the road and about my mum’s healthcare provision and how she’s going to manage living on her own. It seemed that my local concerns were not being addressed by any of the national parties.

Three years ago Residents for Uttlesford (R4U) was formed and I realised, finally, here was a local party that would have a direct and immediate benefit where I live – without a central Government agenda.

By standing as the R4U County Councillor candidate for the Stansted Division, I can stop complaining and do something real. That’s it. It’s that simple.

I’ve knocked on thousands of doors in the last couple of months: I’ve been greeted warmly (and less warmly!). I’ve listened to what lots of you have to say, and it seems to me we all have much the same concerns. That’s why I’m standing.

It would be great if you voted for me on Thursday so I can help us all to get our community closer to where it needs to be, with regards to schools, roads, transport and social care. But, as I’ve said all along, whether you vote for me, or anyone else, what matters is that you vote.

In June there will be a General Election. R4U won’t be involved. So, whether you want to vote Conservative, Labour, Lib-Dem or any other national party, that’s the time to use your vote for national issues.

But on this Thursday 4th May please vote local and help me make Uttlesford an even better place for us all. Thank you.

Anthony Gerard
R4U Candidate for:
Essex Stansted Division
