R4U’s Cllr Paul Gadd, council leader at Saffron Walden Town Council said “We know our younger residents love our new playground on the Common, but we’re delighted that the investments that we’ve made in our community facilities have been independently recognised. The Common playground won the Best Kept Playground award from the Essex Playing Fields Association. We are thrilled that another one of our playgrounds at Golden Acre also won its second Gold Award for upkeep and maintenance. It is a testament to the hard work the Town Council team puts in. Other places in Uttlesford also fared well – we’d like to congratulate Radwinter for scooping the top award in their category and Elsenham for runner up in theirs.”

“In Saffron Walden we feel like we’re on a roll! Last month the town council won the Best Council in Essex award, and we aim to continue the good work. R4U recently announced our new 4-year plan of works at the Town Council, which will include refurbishing a number of our older playgrounds as well as building a brand new community centre in the north of the town.”

Feedback from parents helped redesign the playground to provide a range of new activities as well as the first disability enabled equipment.
