New playground at Saffron Walden Golden Acre opened by R4U-led Saffron Walden Town Council

Residents for Uttlesford (R4U) has announced that the refurbishment of the playground at the Golden Acre Community Centre in Saffron Walden has now been completed and the playground is open again.

Late last year, R4U-led Saffron Walden Town Council established a playground working group, initially to oversee the renewal of the Golden Acre playground. The working group will also be looking at refurbishments of the other Town Council playgrounds over the next few years.

R4U’s Cllr Louise Millward, a member of the Saffron Walden Town Council Playground Working Group, said “We are absolutely delighted with the quality and range of equipment in the new playground at Golden Acre. It is opposite the Katherine Semar primary school and so is a well-used meet-up point for parents after school. Some of the equipment no longer met modern standards, but to get the best value for residents, as much equipment as possible has been retained and refurbished, whilst the Town Council has invested in a range of new play equipment. Wetpour has been used throughout the central play area to make it much more attractive in the winter months. We’re also pleased that in keeping with the refurbishment of the Common playground two years ago, the Town Council has made it accessible with a range of disability enabled equipment. The Town Council will arrange a formal re-opening later in the autumn, with the community involved.”

Cllr Millward continued “At R4U we believe we should be investing in community facilities through the councils we lead. We’re very proud of the play equipment that the Town Council provides and the numerous awards it has won. Following the refurbishment of both the Common and the Golden Acre playgrounds, over the next 18 months our attention is turning to refurbishments at the Anglo-American Playing Fields and in Little Walden.”
