Saffron Walden Town Council Tax held to below rate-of-inflation 7p a week increase for 2022

Saffron Walden Town Council, led by Residents for Uttlesford (R4U), has approved its budget for 2022/23 and its updated plan for the next 5 years, which includes a below rate of inflation council tax increase.

R4U’s councillor Paul Gadd, Leader of Saffron Walden Town Council, said “We recognise that times are tight for many people, with fuel and utility bills soaring and costs increasing generally even before the Government’s planned increase in national insurance bills. The Town Council has therefore agreed an increase in its council tax of 2%, significantly below the current rate of inflation which has risen to over 5%. For a home in Band D, this represents an increase of £3.53 per year or 7p per week.”

Cllr Gadd continued “Councils remain under financial pressure as the huge Government cuts to local authority funding of the last 10 years continue, and councils are expected to do more with far less money. The Town Council has therefore tried to keep its tax increase as low as possible whilst continuing to invest in Saffron Walden’s communal assets, which residents value so highly.”
