R4U’s Cllr Heather Asker, chair of the Saffron Walden Town Council Assets and Services Committee, said “We are delighted that the Town Council’s Tourist Information Centre has won the Leisure and Tourism category in the Essex Business Awards for 2017. The Tourist Information Centre was up against very tough competition and fought off entries from Colchester Zoo, Kuoni Travel Agency, Lifehouse Spa and Wivenhoe House, amongst many others.”

Heather Asker continued “Some years ago the Uttlesford District Council leadership offloaded the Tourist Information Centre on the Town Council, seeing it just as another expense. Whilst they may have seen the Tourist Information Centre as an expense, R4U sees it as a vital part of bringing tourists and income to the local businesses in our historic market town. The credit for this award should go to all of the superb Tourist Information Centre team for the hard work they do in promoting our local area every day. In the last month Saffron Walden Town Council won the second best council in Essex award, and it is an absolute credit to all the hard work put in from officers and staff. This second independent award in as many months demonstrates that the town is in good hands under R4U stewardship.”
