Saffron Walden Town Council adopts Climate Action Plan

R4U-led Saffron Walden Town Council has formally adopted a Climate Action Plan setting out how it will achieve its goal of being carbon neutral by 2030.

R4U Councillor Paul Gadd, leader at SWTC, and the councillor principally involved in the adoption of the Climate Action Plan, said “We’re delighted that the Town Council has adopted a targeted Climate Action Plan to give a clear path to achieving its climate goals. The Action Plan will analyse the sources of the Town Council’s carbon footprint, whether through its buildings, use of vehicles and equipment, external events or other services, and develop strategies for each of those. SWTC will also try to influence other bodies, whether through transport policies, the planning process or otherwise, to reduce Saffron Walden’s carbon footprint. The Action Plan also fits within the wider eco agenda for Uttlesford district being led by R4U UDC portfolio holder Louise Pepper.”

Cllr Gadd continued “The Town Council has already implemented many measures, including moving its vehicles to electric as they are renewed, changing equipment from petrol to battery powered, adopting new methods of maintenance to encourage wildlife and reduce energy input, and planting many trees and hedges. The Climate Action Plan now gives the Council a clear focus for the next 7 years. My thanks are owed in particular to the Town Clerk, Lisa Courteney, who was instrumental in preparing the Climate Action Plan.”
