Elaine Coote

Elaine is well known and respected across Saffron Walden. After a career of building and providing childcare, nursery and respite services, she volunteers her time for youth and community programmes.

Elaine Coote knows Saffron Walden backward because she has lived in the town since 1972 with her husband Arthur, who is an R4U councillor.

After working in the offices of longstanding Saffron Walden fishmonger Frank Bacon, she decided to build a career following her passion, children and developing the next generation. With her husband she founded and ran Coote Childminding Centre which cared for children before and after school for over 20 years. She also provided respite care for disabled children and fostered children for 9 years of age.

Elaine is also involved in many community and youth activities. She is an active member of Saffron Walden Baptist Church. She has worked for over 30 years in many youth programmes including the as Boys Brigade, church youth group and Sunday school. Even though she is now retired she is still active as a Street Pastor, who are volunteers that patrol the town on weekend evenings to provide help where needed.
