R4U supports new major business park on the M11 road/rail corridor at Stansted Airport, bringing 1,000s of new jobs

The planning approval by Uttlesford District Council of a large new brown-field business park, closely connected to rail, the M11 and Stansted Airport, had been welcomed by Residents for Uttlesford (R4U). The new enterprise park is expected to bring thousands of new jobs to the district.

R4U’s Cllr Neil Reeve, UDC portfolio holder for the Economy, Investment and Corporate Strategy, said “We welcome UDC’s Planning Committee approval of this new major distribution and enterprise park adjacent to Stansted Airport. Closely connected to the motorway and rail network, this 150 acre/62 hectare site is perfectly placed within 4 hours’ reach of 80% of the UK’s population. It will be the largest new business development site in the region. With 200,000 square metres of new business space right on major communications corridors, we will have a great offer to attract many companies. Importantly, thousands of local jobs will be created, in both the construction phase and the long term.”

R4U’s Cllr John Evans, UDC portfolio holder for Planning, the Local Plan, Stansted Airport and Infrastructure commented “As UDC plans for the district’s future through the Local Plan, it is required to find places for new jobs to match the housing numbers that the government demands councils approve. To do this, UDC is supportive of bringing back into use this underused brown-field site where the old airport terminal and satellite buildings were once located. Now that the site has been approved, UDC is continuing to work with the developer to ensure that, in addition to distribution and logistics, sufficient space will also be provided for small start-up and incubator businesses; and to make sure it is a quality development which meets required infrastructure, environmental and other planning obligations.”

The major new enterprise park will be a brown-field redevelopment of old airport facilities.
